In this tutorial, we'll use Data Fetcher and the Clearbit API to enrich a list of leads in Airtable. You might have a list of emails from a website sign up form, your app's users or another source. For each email, we'll look up attributes such as person name, company industry and company address. You can then use this information to tailor your outreach to the leads. Although we'll be using the Clearbit API, this tutorial is 100% no-code!
Clearbit is a sales intelligence software. It combines public and private data from the web about companies and makes this available through an API. Data Fetcher integrates with Clearbit, so you do not need to understand APIs to use their data.
You will need to grab an API key from Clearbit. First, sign up for a Clearbit account if you do not have one already. Then, find your Clearbit API key here in the Clearbit dashboard.
Create a table in your Airtable base called 'Emails'. No worries if you have an existing table with the emails in. Just follow this tutorial with the equivalent fields in your existing table.
Add a field in your 'Emails' table called 'Email' with type 'Email'. Add the leads/ emails that you want to enrich, one in each record, in this field. If you don't have any emails yet, you can use an email finder tool to enrich your existing data.
Create a Grid view in the 'Emails' table called 'To process' with the following filters. This is the view we're going to use as the input/output when we look up the info from Clearbit.
Add Data Fetcher to your base from the Airtable marketplace. This is a free extension that lets us import data to Airtable from other platforms like Clearbit, Stripe and Xero.
After you have added Data Fetcher to your base, you will need to create a free Data Fetcher account. Enter a password and click 'Sign up for free' or click 'Continue with Google'. Signing up for an account keeps your details secure. This is separate from your Airtable account.
Once you've signed up for a Data Fetcher account, you will land on the home screen. Click 'Create your first request' to go to the create request screen.
On the create request screen in Data Fetcher, select 'Clearbit' for the Application.
Under Authorization, enter your Clearbit API Key from the previous step.
Select 'Look up person & company info from email address(es)' for the Endpoint.
Enter 'Import Company Info' for the request Name. Then click 'Save & Continue' in the bottom right.
For Email, we want to insert a reference to our 'Email' field. First click the + button.
A modal will open where we can create the table reference. For Field, select 'Email'.
Click 'Confirm'.
The Email field should now contain a reference to the table.
Make sure the Output Table & View is set to 'Emails' and 'To process'.
Click 'Save & Run'.
Next, you need to configure how the available fields from Clearbit should map to fields in your output table. The Response field mapping modal will have open, where you can do this.
For each field name form Clearbit, you can either import it or filter it. For an imported field, you can either map it to an existing field or create a new field in your output table. You can also set the field type for each new field.
Map the 'Person name full name' field to the existing 'Name' field by clicking 'Existing field' and then selecting 'Name'. Import any other fields you want. Then click 'Save & Run'.
Data Fetcher will create any fields that need to be created in the output table, then run the request and enrich the leads with company and person information from the Clearbit API.
Every time you click 'Run' on the create request screen, any emails in the 'To process' view will be enriched. To avoid having to do this, you can use Data Fetcher's scheduled requests feature. This means it will run automatically on the schedule that you select, e.g. once per hour.
This is a paid feature, so you need to upgrade. In Data Fetcher, scroll to Schedule and click 'Upgrade'.
In Data Fetcher, scroll to Schedule and click 'Upgrade'.
A new tab will open where you can select a plan and enter your payment details to upgrade.
Return to the Data Fetcher extension and click 'I've done this'.
Under Schedule click '+ Authorize'.
A new window will open where you'll be prompted to authorize the Airtable bases you want Data Fetcher to be able to access.
It's recommended to select 'All current and future bases in all current and future workspaces' in order to avoid issues with unauthorized bases in the future.
Click 'Grant access'.
In Data Fetcher, Schedule this request will now be toggled on.
Select how often you want the request to run, e.g. 'Every 15 mins'. Click 'Save'. The request will now run on the schedule and enrich the emails using Clearbit automatically.
